P H & G Railway was founded in 1970 with the intention of being a pioneer in the restoration of vintage Steam Locomotives. Three people got together to restore a 4-8-2 Mountain locomotive that was owned by the Canadian National RR Number, 6043. After that project was complete, they wanted to do more to preserve the history of steam. Since then they have restored numerous locomotives and started doing excursions tours for the public. Now the many members of the society have learned so much that they can restore a Locomotive in a very short time. The society has also purchased the trackage in the area and provides service for the local business needs as well as maintaining the rails for their excursion purposes. As they may restore some of the bigger Locomotives they want to be able to keep a rail that will hold the Big Boys.
Although the P H & G is still a functioning Railway for the local area, the major part of the railway is restoration and education, both for the public and also for themselves. Most of the engineers required to run the railroad are volunteer Boiler operators, but some are employed by the society to run the local railway. Since we run live steam as a business, P H & G is required to have the full time engineers to hold level one boiler operator license. This means sending them to school once a year. The profit from the local service they provide keeps their restoration projects going.
