This layout started construction in 2005, in a room specifically designed for layout use. The room measures 14X40' with only one door and no windows. The layout will be On3 (O scale narrow gauge) and features the Denver and Rio Grande Western in the late 1930's, although some other equipment occasionally shows up for service. The engines are a mix of Brass (Sunset), Die Cast (MMI), and Composite (Bachmann and Precision Craft), all with sound. Structures are a mix of Scratchbuilt and hydrocal kits. Track is completely hand laid using code 83 rail on Mt. Albert brand Sugar Pine ties. Sound system for the layout is provided by Grizzly Mountain Engineering, which we believe to be a better sounding alternative to DCC systems.
We will also have an new 5X16' HO scale layout. It is all Kato unitrack and is powered by Genesis, Kato Diesels and by some Rivarossi Steam engines including the huge 2-6-6-6 Allegheny engine.
